Kulbergs to assess ministers' performance at least once a month

RIGA, June 12 (LETA) - Work on ministers' priorities will be assessed at least once a month, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (United List) told reporters after a government meeting on Friday.

Kulbergs said that each minister's priorities would be considered at the Cabinet of Ministers' meeting on June 30.

After the government meeting today, Kulbergs said that not all ministers were used to such a set-up, while he himself was results-oriented. The ministers' work must be in line with the government declaration, it will have to be done within four months, and the results will have to be measurable, said Kulbergs. Some ministries have done well with defining their priorities, others not so well. The most difficult question is how to measure ministries' performance in attaining their priorities: whether it will be a Cabinet decision, an amendment, a specific regulation, or a specific plan, he explained.

Equally important is the question of whether achieving these priorities will have a fiscal impact, said the prime minister.

Work on the ministries' priorities will be assessed at least once a month, said Kulbergs.

As reported, the prime minister had instructed ministers to each prepare three things they were prepared to achieve during the office of this government.

On May 28, the Saeima approved the new government, which is made up of the United List, the National Alliance, New Unity and the Union of Greens and Farmers.
